Peter's Song

That this was a class of incredibly talented people was something I knew, but I remain delighted and impressed with those talents as you share them in your final Story Projects. Here is something else that I can share:
Some of you may know that Peter is a prolific songwriter; he included some of those songs in his final project, songs that he wrote during the semester and that had everything to do with what we were taking about in class. With his permission, I've uploaded one of those songs here--I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Yay! Matt's Story Project

Matt, ever resourceful, has uploaded his project to a website--you can go there and download his story project if you'd like to hear the whole thing! Here's the link:

Matt's radio show

Unfortunately, the UVM blog server will not allow the uploading of files as big as Matt's. Matt and I even tried to get around this by dividing the file into three parts, but to no avail. It's clear that the server will upload only about 3 minutes of material.

So, you might want to drop by Matt's room some time and ask if you can hear his show--it's terrific. It really is. And I'm so sorry I can't get it onto the blog.

This American Life

Matt Brown and I have been talking about our mutual admiration for a radio show called "This American Life" that is produced by Chicago Public Radio. The show, with its trademark quirky format, tells true stories about people every week (proving, always, that truth is stranger than fiction). Here's a link if you'd like to browse around the radio archive and listen to a show or two (the stories are AMAZING!):
http://www.thislife.org/Radio_Archive.aspx.

Recently (as of March 22), the show has moved into a for-TV format as well. It preserves all the quirkiness of the radio format, but now it includes visuals. I recently watched their first show, and the second story in particular struck me as pertinent to our recent discussions about truth and perception. I highly recommend it. Here's the link:

Links to pieces on Lying

Shortly after Lying came out it was quite savagely reviewed by Janet Maslin of the New York Times. And shortly after that review came out, Slater published a piece on Salon.com about that review--her response to it and a reflection on the popularity of the illness memoir. Below are links to both the Maslin review and Slater's response:
